Interstate Moves vs. Intrastate Moves

Interstate Moves have origin and destination addresses in different states. These moves are charged by the pound. Movers are generally allowed to give "discounts" on these moves and are usually a little more negotiable than they can be with ---

Intrasate Moves are moves where the origin and destination addresses are in the same state. Moving Companies (in most states including Massachusetts - MA) have to file tariffs or rates that cannot be "discounted" in order to book a move. For example if moving company A goes to a customers home and quotes $99/hour for 2 men and a truck; the same moving company cannot go to another customer and charge $89/hour for 2 men and a truck. Massachusetts Moving companies must file a copy of their intrastate rates with the Department of Telecommunications and Energy. A moving company is allowed to change their rates by filing again, at any time. Massachusetts Moving companies can also file rates like this:

-Monday thru Thursday $89/hour for 2 men and a truck

-Friday thru Sunday $99/hour for 2 men and a truck
